Lighting: The lighting in the film Black Angel is chiroscuro which creates a tense mood. And also gives the classic noir feeling.
Costumes: The costumes used in the film are the classic fedora hat and blazer/trench coats suits. Which the men usually wore during the film noir period.
Cinematography: An important shot used in the scene was the establishing shot. I thought it was an important shot because it tells the audience where the scene is set as well as letting us know how "well to do" a character is. For example, the first scene is shot in LA,in a town/busy place which could tell us that the character is rich/high class.
Sound: The sound told me that the setting itself was posh/rich however, it gave the feeling that some sort of crime would take place as it wasn't gentle but it wasn't too fast. Also the sound of the cars told me that the part of LA was busy and is always in use.
D.O.A. (1950) Film-Noir Thriller
Storyline: The film D.O.A. starts off at the police station, where a man reports a murder, however when the head officer asks him who was murdered the man claims he was. The murder took place in San Francisco the night before he reported himself of the murder.
Lighting: Lowkey lighting had been used in this film opening. There was a mysterious mood created at the beginning as the man made his was to the office.
Costumes: The doomed hero wore the classic suit and tie however he did not wear a fedora hat, which wasn't very uncommon.
Cinematography: An important shot used was a close up shot. I thought this camera shot was important because it can help an audience read a characters emotion which can create more feeling. Another important camera shot used was the establishing shot. I thought this shot was important because it tells the audience a lot about the sort of area the film is set in and where the film is set.
Sound: The sound playing was really dramatic which helped create tension for the audience, making them ask "what happened?" It can also portray something important that is currently happening or has already happened, which can leave an enigma code for the audience. There is an example of non-diegetic sound in the opening scene which is the music playing, it has been used effectively because it fits the films story, which adds tension to the situation.
Brute Force
Lighting: The lighting is lowkey and chiaroscuro which creates a mysterious feeling.
Costumes: The film was set in a prison so the costume were just simple prison clothes, eg. jumpsuit.
Cinematography: An important shot used in the scene was the establishing shot. I thought it was an important shot because it tells the audience where the scene is set and what kind of film it is,(murder etc). For example, the first shot is of a prison which could tell us that the character is a criminal or prison warden.
Sound: The sound was dramatic, however, it gave an adrenaline feeling of curiosity and urging the audience to continue watching to find out what happened, why the opening is set in a prison.
